Infrared Home Defender - motion detector alarm for home or business. Can be set to alarm or chime. Position around room/household entrances. Protects a designated area. Triggered when the invisible PIR protected zone is breached. Doberman is proud to offer the PIR Sensor Alarm. This unit can be placed anywhere or mounted on the wall or ceiling. Using Passive Infrared (PIR) technology, this alarm unit can designate a protected zone up to 15 feet in a 90 degree sweep from the device. If an intruder trespasses into the invisible protected zone, PIR motion detection triggers the loud alarm.

I didn't buy this from Amazon, but feel that anyone looking here to purchase one should be warned. This is at best is a toy and should be avoided at all costs. The range of the sensor says up to 15 feet, but It takes being anywhere from 3-8' to trigger, and this distance does fluctuate and as stated the best I can get is 8 foot. The most disapointing thing is the little speaker for the siren/chime. My kids leapfrog radio has a louder speaker than this. The chime is poor at best and the siren is laughable. The manual states 100db of output, and I work in the audio industry and know that this could never be this loud even if lightning struck it. Honestly my speakerphone on my cellphone is about as loud.
Doberman wasted their time and my money. False advertising possibly.

I bought this item becuase of the price. I needed something to monitor a vulnerable room in our house after some vandalism in our neighborhood. Upon testing the product, when the siren went off it was about as loud as a siren on a toy police car. you could literally hold the alarm up to your ear... Not an alarm at all.

Can't really be concealed because it has to be in the open to detect motion. I tried to conceal it in a DVD cabinet between discs, but when the alarm goes off a light blinks and an intruder will be able to spot it easily and can turn it off in seconds. Not loud enough to be heard on a different floor and also goes through batteries quickly when left on.

Don't believe the description of this product. It does not have a loud 'alarm'. it is the same volume as the door chime and is difficult to hear through a door/window. I bought two of these thinking I could put them on a little used entrance way to provide some security against intruders- I think any intruders would laugh at the noise coming from this!
