Amazon.com Product Description For students in math and sciences, or for anyone new to graphing calculators, Texas Instruments has created the TI-83 Plus--a powerful, problem-solving tool with features for storing, graphing, and analyzing up to 10 functions. Plus, it displays graphs and evaluates tables on a split screen, allowing you to trace the graph and scroll through table values simultaneously. The clear, readable display exhibits 12 characters and eight lines, in 64 x 96 pixels on an LCD screen. The TI-83 Plus has a pragmatic key layout and an easy-to-use graphing interface, with a simple programming language for creating conversion programs. The TI-83 Plus stores and analyzes up to 10 matrices combined with data storage in lists containing up to 999 elements per list. You can also solve equations interactively for different variables. With the TI-83 Plus, you can view an equation, its graph, and the coordinates all at one time. Jump from point to point by entering a number. Several useful plot types are available, including scatter, box-and-whisker, XY-line, histogram, and normal probability plots. Advanced statistics and regression analysis, graphical analysis, and data analysis are readily accessed, along with features for calculus, engineering, financial, logarithm, trigonometry, and hyperbolic functions--all crucial tools for advanced analysis. | | |  Educational Apps(TM) | | | | With its clear display and fast processing, the TI-83 Plus incorporates graphing tools for mathematics and science course work, including statistics and finance. Incredibly useful for college boards--PSAT/NMSQT, SAT I, SAT II, Math, IC, and IIC--the TI-83 is essential equipment for advanced placement courses in chemistry, physics, and calculus. The addition of the optional TI-Graph Link (software and cable) allows you to connect the calculator to your computer, permitting the transfer of files and data between machines. The TI-83 is powered by four AAA alkaline batteries and one lithium battery for backup, with an automatic shutoff to save energy. It also comes with a hard slide cover and is supported by a one-year limited warranty. --Barbara Price

Would use this seller again July 29, 2010 ghat7 The product arrived fast, in new condition, included cables and battery, as described. It even included the training CD, not mentioned in the ad. Very happy with purchase.
Economic Market Fail July 19, 2010 Booyah (Arlington, VA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Ti-83 is an electronics marvel, it is the only piece of technology that stays in its original price range no matter how old it gets. These specs aren't just out of date, they're so old that you would expect them to be preceded by the phrase "remember when...."
The Ti-83 Plus came out in 1999. Aside from an extremely small amount of extra flash memory, it's the same as the Ti-83 released in 1996. And the Ti-83 itself is really not much different than the Ti-82 which came out in 1993. But somehow after all this time the price hasn't moved. Seriously, look at the listed specs: 16KB of RAM and "Big 160KB archive space." Are they kidding? That's so out of date that I can't even remember the last time I saw kilobytes used as a unit of measurement.
And talk about an awful, extremely low resolution display. This is the same 96x64 monochrome display from the original Ti-81 released in 1990. Decent displays cost almost nothing now. And it would be helpful to have a basic color display so you could have different colored lines when you mapped more than one function at at the same time.
Where does TI even find suppliers that make components this out of date? Actually, maybe that's why this thing is so expensive. The components are so old that scarcity is a big problem.
How TI has been able to dominate this market by selling extremely overpriced and out of date technology is amazing. The only good thing: if someone is ever trying to convince you that monopolies are good things that will lead to better products, just hold up your TI graphing calculator and you've won the debate.
Excellent, speedy delivery of a great calculator. July 4, 2010 LatinStudent I was impressed by the speed of the delivery and the care given to the packing. As far as the calculator and the cables, everything was perfect, and it has been perfect for my mathematics course.
Great for Middle School + High School June 19, 2010 Jan Chudzik (Queens NY) This graphing calculator is what all Middle Schools and High Schools use for regents so if you want to get used to it ahead of time or just to practice at home I would definitely recommend it. I actually needed one at home for home work and stuff like. It is very efficient and from what i know from my friends its the only one that doesn't die on you within a few months or so. The only problem is that you dont get the plug in wire for it which is like 10 dollars on amazon, but other than that its fine. It would be nice to see amazon make a bundle like that. Just like i said its the perfect calculator for High School!
Not bad but could be better June 14, 2010 Amy Saab I am an assistant math teacher, I like students to have the TI-89. That is the calculator that I would best be able to support in teaching AP physics as it does what is needed at the AP Physics level. Please make your student's experience in any class more successful by getting the calculator the teacher recommends, as that is the calculator the teacher will be best able to help with. These calculators can be very confusing for students to learn, so using what the rest of the class is using is going to result in the greatest amount of learning possible. From my point of view, if your child's teacher asks you to get a TI 83 Plus, please get the 83 Plus. My physics students use the 83 Plus for data collection with a great deal of success, because that is the calculator I have time to support in the classroom. It is very difficult for the classroom teacher to properly support more than one graphing calculator in a given class.
